Advocacy
Each person and group in the collective strives to raise awareness and press for change with and on behalf of young women in conflict affected areas.
We have done countless public appearances and talks and if you would like one in your organization, please contact us!
Some of our initiatives include:
Challenging Media Narratives
"Her Name is Beatrice..." is a documentary project from Lara and Beatrice comprised of the following components: a publication, photo-based installations, video-based installations, presentations and a paper. The elements work together to examine documentary's potentials and pitfalls in critical "witnessing", while exploring how voices from girls living in the center of conflict can challenge dominant media and humanitarian narratives. Lara visited Beatrice three times over the past two years in Padibe Internally Displaced Person's camp in Northern Uganda. See www.hernameisbeatrice.com
No More Rape
In 2009, Tanja, Annabel, Serena and Simon launched the campaign NO MORE RAPE to get Canadians to wake up and take a stand against mass rape in the DR Congo. Read more about this at www.acac.drcongo.org
Gender Justice
Erin, Ketty and Bonnie are all apart of the Justice and Reconciliation Project, a grassroots initiative that documents the histories of the conflict and seeks to preserve memory, acknowledge loss and advocate for change. As an offshoot of this project, we work with once abducted young women in northern Uganda to raise awareness of their particular needs and strengths in local and national policy forums.
See www.justiceandreconciliation.com to read about general justice issues in Uganda.
